The Problem: Non-responsive Design
The previous website did not have a responsive version for mobile devices and the design looked outdated. The client asked for a solution that would help the users view the website on their mobile devices and navigate easier through the website’s pages.
The Process: Research
Define, with the customer’s help, who the intended audience is. The website is targeting current and former students, previous customers, and other people that already know the bookstore.
Look for inspiration by checking bookstore websites, popular designs, and trends.
The Process: Design
- Create a moodboard that contains colors, typography, and websites;
- Draw some rough sketches to find the ideal structure;
- Design the site in Figma;
- Review the new design with the client.
The Process: Build
I chose to build the website on WordPress because it’s easier to use and manage by the customer. Since the previous website had e-commerce capabilities I decided to use WooCommerce and customize it.
Launch, Maintain and Optimize
No website work is ever finished. Once launched, the site needs to be maintained to work properly. Also, the website has to be optimized for search engines so people can find it when they search for something that interests them.
